People Weekly Tom Gliatto
The series' grim tone and overall look of a grimy world in perpetual need of dusting or wiping is a long way from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and closer to Japanese movies like The Grudge. [12 Sep 2005, p.45]

It's likely to startle you the way no show has since The X-Files.

This creepy storytelling carries extra punch because the drama has an excellent, easy-to-root-for cast.

"Supernatural" is unlike anything else out there and should build a following among viewers who appreciate its combination of spooky mythology and mystery adventure.

Padalecki and Ackles are hunky, funny and a joy to watch.

Of all the season's new dark-arts adventures, WB's aptly if generically named Supernatural may be the simplest and the scariest.... It wants nothing more than to frighten you -- and tonight, it does.

Ackles and Padalecki are good-looking, yes, get to drive a '67 Chevy and will undoubtedly run into a lot of really hot women in peril, but "Supernatural" works. It's just serious enough, just hip enough and, as advertised, more scary than imagined.

A loud, believably unbelievable ghost story, a different ghost from classic lore guest-starring each week.

"Supernatural" plays like a high-octane B-flick. You could be mildly ashamed at how much you like it.

There isn't much in "Supernatural" to engage viewers older than Sam and Dean, but it's certainly not the worst of the new troop of spookers.

The stars are appealing WB veterans, but it is hard to believe that subsequent episodes will carry the same edge as the premiere. "Supernatural" is not "The Sixth Sense," it's "Ghostbusters' Creek."

The creep factor runs high, and it had better in a series called "Supernatural." But the series also has its overly familiar and just-plain-silly moments.

Genre fans used to the emotional depth and extraordinary storytelling of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel" will find that this show is not even remotely in "Buffy's" or "Angel's" league.

As flat and robotic as the show may be, a teen "X-Files" meets "Red Eye" is likely to pull in high ratings.

Jennet P. gave it a3:
"Supernatural" is "Charmed" with a Y chromosome: both concern attractive squabbling siblings who inherit an occult mission from dead relatives. The brothers face a slightly more interesting range of adversaries than the sisters' cookie-cutter demons, but the essential Manichaeism is the same, as is the notion that, in vanquishing evil, you need both a powerful spell and a powerful right hook. I do see the appeal in watching attractive young people avert the apocalypse with remnants of high school Latin and a round of black eyes, but that appeal fades fast without fresh, challenging stories.

Dan C gave it a9:
Supernatural is without a doubt one of the best shows on TV at the moment.

Michael S gave it a9:
This show is great. There's comedic humor sometimes, there's drama, and of course there is sci-fi paranormal stuff.

Chad D. gave it a10:
Ok. People need to ease up on the bashing of this show. First off, if you want cliche, then buffy is for you! c'mon some hot girl that can just literally beat the crap out of demons, physically?! At least Sam and Dean usually don't go head to head without a weapon or amulet of some sort! And when they do, they get knocked out, so at least that's a little more realistic. And it's about two brothers that love each other more than anything. Which is something some of us wish we had. And for the record, it's hard to truly frighten anyone nowadays, so they make up for it by at least making it interesting and relatable. And the acting is not horrible. Dean is comic relief plus i believe a true hero. And they've saved like a thousand children! C'mon people!

Kris J gave it a10:
This is the show I look forward to the most every week. If you've stayed away because you've seen stills of the leads and have figured it's just another CW "Cute Boy Show" you were wrong. Supernatural is one of the most consistently well-written, acted, and directed shows on television. The effects are awesome, the scares are effective, the humour is INTENTIONAL, and the relationship between Sam and Dean is some of the most honest and real work that I've ever seen in any medium, television or otherwise. If you never gave Supernatural a chance now is the time. Supposedly the creator plans to end it at the end of his "Five Year Plan".

Kate J gave it a10:
I watch TV for pure entertainment and likable characters. Supernatural has both. Plus I really enjoy paranormal-themed shows and this one covers it in spades.

Andrew B. gave it a9:
Supernatural is an excellent show that has an incredible progression with character development. Sam and Dean are believably "real" and you feel involved with their adventures and conflicts. Brilliant writing, an excellent depiction of the characters, and loads of great action make this show a true winner.
