Work the count - With Total Control Hitting you can time your swing to hit for power, put the ball in play or take a defensive cut. It's easily the best looking baseball title 2K Sports has ever put out, and with so many improvements under the hood you'd be hard pressed to pass on this one.

2K Sports delivers a good baseball game for the Xbox 360. It's not great, but it is better than last year’s version.

The learning curve is steep, often frustrating and the controls are almost revolutionary but it says a lot when after more than 5 hours of play I'm still in the minors and I've barely touched many of the other gameplay features. This title will keep you coming back and will try at every turn, to make you a stats fan.

It took a while, but MLB 2K10 has fixed enough, and added enough, to be an excellent way to play a baseball game on your TV. The multiplayer issues need to be fixed as soon as possible, but we're looking forward to the series using this year as a foundation for the future.

Not quite ready for the World Series, MLB 2K10 at least makes the playoffs this year. Visual Concepts are turning the series around slowly but there’s still a lot of work left to do.

Over on the PS3, MLB 10: The Show has just launched, and it likely still claims the crown in the video baseball showdown. But it clearly hasn’t experienced the same sudden improvement as the 2K line, which, now, can be considered a true competitor.

As the only baseball option on the 360, we’re relieved that MLB 2K10 is a genuine winner. There is still work to be done, but it deserves a spot on a major league roster.

Is 2K10 going to the Series? Not quite — but it’s fundamentally solid all-around, and that’s enough to keep it entertaining all year long.

The MyPlayer mode is easily accessible, even to those that don't care for Franchise modes, and the improved gameplay (for the most part) and presentation make this game closer to the real thing than the competition.

Makes players feel like they're playing baseball, rather than watching a telecast or playing a videogame. Falls short of competitor in visuals and overall depth, but gets the most important aspects of core gameplay and immersion just right.

There is no question that the MLB 2K10 franchise is headed in the right direction as this year’s installment is simply much better than years past.

MLB 2K10 is a good game of baseball. Not a great game, yet, but a good game. I will say that for the first time in recent memory, I get the sense playing this game that it does have the chance to be a great game in the next couple of years.

MLB 2K10 is heading in the right direction, but it’s not quite where it needs to be yet.

MLB 2K10 marks the 10th anniversary of the baseball franchise with a greatly improved game that's the best in the history of the series.

With a solid start for MyPlayer mode, and a strong big picture batting and pitching mechanic in place, I'm quite optimistic for the 11th iteration of MLB 2k.

MLB 2K10 is a good game that feels for the most part like you're playing baseball. There is a lot of depth, and some great new features. While not as buggy as 2K9, some of the problems still exist, which keeps this game from being great.

Yet great strides have been made in creating a more realistic-playing game, especially when factoring in the assortment of sliders that can adjust the action even further. There are still areas that could use additional polish, but the overall experience is a step in the right direction.

While MLB 2K10 takes small steps towards fixing the problems that made last year's game such a disappointment, it still doesn't come close to delivering the definitive baseball experience that we all want from the oldest baseball franchise around.

Major League Baseball 2K10 makes big strides simply by being playable, which is something that couldn't always be said of last year's outing.

A few errors are made here, but the series has, nonetheless, been reinvigorated.

There's nothing new or innovative to the genre here, but there is a lot to enjoy. The half-broken online play needs to be addressed before the series goes forward.

This is not a perfect outing but dang is it a big improvement over last year’s outing and if your looking at this as a potential option I would say rent it first and make sure the style fits your needs as the game has plenty of content to take you outside of a rental period.

It lacks a ton of polish in the visual and animation departments that are important to give the game all the details it needs to actually feel like you’re at the ballpark rather than just playing a game.

MLB 2K10 is an improvement in many ways perhaps, most importantly, it won't be an embarrassing butt of jokes on the Internet.

But this much is certain: when you put the game in and start playing, you'll actually be able to play a game of baseball. That alone is a huge improvement over last year's title.

This is the first time in a long time that 2K has a viable baseball game in its stable, and while there remain many issues that need to be addressed either via a patch or for 2K11, at least now the developers have something real to build on rather than being forced to start all over again.

Rich M. gave it a9:
As a former PS2 owner I decided when I upgraded to buy xbox 360. However one big part of my decision was my lose of the show.2K9 was pretty lame however this version is near flawless. I pick a team other than my yankees and create players. I love this game now becuase you can change pitching along with thier pitches, and you can raise their speed, movement. The batting is still to strong. In other words I can still hit 350 with every other player. I hate that. Ib my lineup of 9 after 60 games already 7 guys are hitting over.320. I hate that but it happened on the show also. Overall this game is near flawless. I thing that does bother me tho is I have only had 1 error in 60 game.A little unrealistic.
Balance Jones gave it a5:
This is basically a beta game at this juncture (3/23/2010). The online gameplay is pretty good, but there are huge exploits. The stadium/crowd graphics are what you would expect from a company bleeding money.
Keith Y gave it an8:
Pretty good game. Critics are pretty much on point - but since I don't care about features like franchise or my career, I weigh my score based primarily on graphics, gameplay, atmosphere and sound as it regards just playing out a single game. Pitching looks great - the movement seems highly authentic. The analog pitch mechanic is a great improvement over timed button presses. The homerun replays look nice, almost as good as seeing one hit in real life from the stands. Batting is excellent. The fact that a player will put a ball into play based on internal skills and attribute ratings is awesome. I don't have to be perfect with my swing anymore, so the learning curve is really good. Fielding is VERY BORING - get a clue next year and work on it, there's nothing to do but watch. I might change my mind, but after about 5 complete games, nothing I saw on the fielding aspect impressed me - but the lack of any user effort was so disappointing - even after looking for sliders and custom options. It's a solid 8, which it to say I pretty much agree with all metacritic posts and am just being nice to 2K since they hooked me up with a free Fathead!!!
Ryan H. gave it a4:
This game is an abomination and everyone who was responsible for it should be ashamed. I hate the fact that EA has a monopoly on the NFL, but at least they deliver a serviceable product. 2K sports is just raking their customers over the coals with this game trying to milk a buck out of the fact that they have no competition in the baseball market and therefore don't need to produce a quality game. Where to begin, OH WHERE TO BEGIN!? A.I. - Utterly repugnant. Makes me want to fist fight my dog. Computer making insane and unrealistic throws time and time again on one hand, only to drop fly balls or steal a base at inopportune times. It's all over the place. Graphics are passable. Not the prettiest game, but it's not bad by any stretch. Sound. Clear and well presented. I might be blinded by my rage in other areas but I haven't noticed any problems with the audio quality. Gameplay - This is the hate filled money shot right here. I can't even begin to guess what they were thinking with some of this stuff. First of all the menu system is easily one of the wort I've ever seen. There is no inherent logic to any of it. You will have difficulty getting from mode to mode ... but why would you? Because let me tell you right now the modes are terrible. Quick Play lets you play an immediate game against a computer opponent or a friend. Cool. That works too, so hey, more power to them. If only anything else did. My Player mode sounds awesome in practice. It's like an RPG career where you build a guy and work him through the minors at his position, growing him until you make it to the big leagues. That's all well and good except for the fact that it's smashed up like Billie Joel's Lexus after an open bar wedding. There are reports all over the net about people's save files being locked or corrupted. LOCKED OR CORRUPTED. It takes forever to level a character up, can you imagine the frustration you would feel if after you put 10+ hours into it, the file on your box just arbitrarily decided you weren't allowed to use it anymore? It's like the game is telling you to go screw yourself, at random, because it hates you. And achievements might not as well even be in the mode since they are all bugged out and glitched (like most other parts of the game). Half of them don’t unlock even when you meet their requirements. Online play is so laughable it’s not even worth mentioning. I haven’t even played a game online yet. I’ve heard it’s terrible if you can ever get in a game, but I’ve given up on trying. Laggy, unresponsive gameplay doesn’t tempt me that much, but I’ve given it a shot. I’ve put a good 30 minutes into just searching games and trying to connect other players in a ranked match … with no luck. What kind of servers are they using for this game? A couple hamsters in wheels duct taped to an 8 track? It’s like the game wasn’t even put through the QA rigors and that’s what’s most upsetting. One of the playtesters couldn’t just have been like “hey, guys, this game kind of, um, sucks? Why not make the online play actually usable, or include a franchise mode that isn’t bugged out or restricted by stupid arbitrary setting qualifications?” Which reminds me; league play sucks. I was on just the other night with two friends and we wanted to try and set up a fantasy draft league ala Madden (or every other sports game, ever). My goal was simple enough, optimally I wanted to have the 3 of us draft teams within a league of, oh I don’t know, 12 people or so. I was hoping that we could pick our players and the computer would auto pick for the remaining 9 spots … but that’s not the case. You can’t have computer controlled teams. So if I wanted a 12 team league, I needed 11 other humans. Ok, that’s kind of weak but whatever, I’ll just switch the league to a weird little 3 team thing just for the time being so we can mess around with it, right? No, it has to be 4. It won’t let you have fewer teams than that … or odd numbers of teams. So I had to open it up for a 4th random guy to join. And I did. We waited about 20 minutes until someone joined, and then when I tried to launch it, in perfect MLB2K10 fashion, it crashed. Sank like a stone. I get the feeling like its half complacency on the developer’s part and half lack of competition in the marketplace. I hear MLB the Show on PS3 is amazing. If I had that system I’d buy it because honestly it can’t be any worse than this. I anxiously await the day that the MLB license can be opened up and other studios can take a crack at it because as it is, I’m forced to buy this game because I love baseball and I have to play something. And something crappy is better than nothing at all. I bet that slogan is printed on a banner at the developer headquarters. They should use it as a quote on the box or in their marketing campaign “Something crappy is better than nothing! You don’t really have a lot of options! Now give us your money!” Congrats guys, you snookered me out of 60 bucks yet again and I hate you for it.
Scott D. gave it a10:
Great game by all means. Certainly a step up from 2K9. My player mode creates a whole new level of excitement and certainly puts MLB 2K as a high end series again. Great commentary, fluent graphics, excellent pitching controls and excellent batting controls. Many new animations added that I was very pleased with. Updated lighting, players look much more realistic and the stadium atmosphere is complemented by the improvement in crowd chatter and noises. I've been playing 2K games for a while now and I am very impressed with their work. MLB 2K8 and 2K9 were almost, steps down in the 2K series and I was very disappointed. But have no fear because 2K10 makes you feel like the transition was very smooth and I will be playing this game for a long time. The features and modes will keep you certainly in high spirits, a MLB fan's heaven. I have not yet seen one glitch, I should also add. A great game.
