Summary

While the game shares its twisting plot with the original PlayStation game, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories takes a different path in many, many ways. Characters can be approached but offer different responses and be found in different places, while new clues and gameplay paths can be followed. The title follows Harry Mason, as he attempts to unravel the mystery of his missing daughter, Cheryl. A broken man, Mason’s investigations lead him to the mist-shrouded, snowy streets of Silent Hill: a malevolent town where the shadows play host to a wealth of evil, misshapen creatures. Also new to Shattered Memories is a psyche profile element, which monitors every aspect of player’s reactions - from where they explore first, items that have been examined, and their reaction to those they meet. Small visual elements will also be altered slightly, adding to the oppressing atmosphere where nothing is what it seems. The psyche profile will adapt Harry’s actions as and when he meets normal-looking people or the game's many inhuman denizens. [Konami]

Worth Playing

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories may be considered one of the last significant games to come out for the PS2, but it is also one of the better ones. Everything about it, from the graphics to the sounds to the controls, ranges from very good to exceptional and shows that developers can still squeeze out a good gaming experience from such an old system

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is an atmospheric action-adventure without any fighting in it. The creepy sound just thrilled me.

The PS2 iteration is no slouch, either. It very closely resembles the Wii incarnation and controls well enough with dual-analog sticks that gamers who don't own both systems won't miss the Wii remote. Meanwhile, since the content is otherwise identical, there's great fun to be had.

The collection quests and bonus UFO ending make this one you'll have to play through several times to get the full experience; ss long as you don't mind lots of running.

Shattered Memories was an attempt at doing something different with the Silent Hill series. Unfortunately, just because something is different doesn't mean it's better.

Here's what you will recognize: a convoluted plot involving a missing daughter and rampant, depraved ghosts; frequent switching between the "real" world and a ghastly nightmare realm; and many locked doors with craftily hidden keys.

Jorden K. gave it a2:
I was very excited to play this game! Couldn't wait for it to come out. I am very disappointed in it. It is NOT scary. It's way to easy and at some points quite boring! The creature chases are about the only thing that's a little difficult. The story line is good, but the game is over way too fast. You can play it over again and get multiple endings, but I hate playing a game a second time. I agree with Benoit- it is definitely an acquired taste (not my taste).

Alex G gave it a9:
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories for the Playstation 2 is a great survival horror game. It's truly scary at times, and the psychological profiling element isn't some gimmick, it really does provide a personal experience depending on who you are. The graphics will surprise you too despite some flaws. Another thing that really separates it from the crowd is it's stellar soundtrack, which is just as creepy and atmospheric as it always has been. The game is short, but that's okay because there is some extreme replay value. Overall this surreal and sometimes terrifying journey to find Cheryl will wow you.

Benoit L gave it a9:
Great game, shows the platform limitations, but it genuinely gets under your skull. It's an acquired taste though. It's slow and sometimes close to be a click n' play game. You have to love the genre
