Summary
Hack ‘n slash your way through this science-fiction-themed action/RPG. In the futuristic universe of GREED, the discovery of new interstellar travel possibilities has led to a new age of colonialization. The five largest colonial powers are entangled in a full-scale war over a new element called Ikarium, the recently discovered rare source of nearly unlimited energy. As a former member of an elite military unit, you will fight a battle for your survival not knowing that your actions will lead the fate of all mankind into dramatic consequences. [Steam]

Greed Black Border is a typical action-RPG with a cool setting and nice graphics, as well as sound effects. There are only some minor drawbacks such as the checkpoint system, the small inventory and the missing option to customize your character.

Greed looks really fine, has some witty puzzles and a wide range of nicely animated enemies. But it fails at delivering the same enthralling experience as Diablo or Torchlight. New items are sparse, there are no quests and only one NPC. For anyone, who looks for a sci-fi-setting in an Action-RPG, Greed might be better than Space Siege. Everyone else should stick to the fantasy brothers.

Greed – this word could describe a new PC video game or the developers’ intention to unleash such games.

While there is a lot to criticise, Greed: Black Border isn’t a terrible game. Despite the constant grapple with odd design decisions and poor pacing, the loot and trading system is serviceable, the puzzles are occasionally challenging, and there’s enough going on that you will want to see what happens next - even if you’re not following the plot. No, Greed isn’t terrible. It is, however, utterly inessential.

All things considered, there is a place for Greed: fans of the point-and-click "Diablo" style of gameplay will find quite a lot to enjoy here, and for all of its quirks, it still does offer a pretty immersive universe to delve into and all for 20 bucks.

Hack & Slash fans seeking new thrills while they prepare for the long wait for Diablo 3 may find some entertainment value, but as with Space Siege the game squanders it’s concept to create a truly middle of the road experience.

Despite some very high production values, great graphics and sound, not to mention a very serviceable UI and leveling system, Greed: Black Border lacks the most important thing a game needs to be successful; fun!

Mildly diverting. [Mar 2010, p.95]

If you're looking for something to keep you occupied until the release of Diablo III, this one will barely count as a blip in your gaming history.

The name seems to be perfect for an action-RPG, but the game is not, quite the opposite. It doesn’t offer enough motivation for the player and doesn’t do the name any justice at all.

Another Diablo-Clone released via Digital Delivery on Steam. After Torchlight, it seems a little redundant.

Anyone with a taste for top-down hack-and-slash RPGs such as Diablo or Space Siege would certainly find Greed a disappointing alternative, despite its sci-fi setting. Any gamer looking to kill a few mindless minutes with a fast-paced, arcade-style RPG would be put off by the game’s stodgy tempo and frustrating controls; and a fan of pure role-playing games who values story or character would find nothing at all.

Neither the base game, nor Greed's admittedly interesting additions are enough to stop it wearing out its welcome before the end of even the opening levels. [Mar 2010, p.89]

Greed: Black Border isn’t fun to play. It tries to be an RPG-lite loot game, but doesn’t include the loot or good RPG elements.

GBB is a good idea, but so poorly executed that we can't recommend it. [Issue#30, p.49]
Boomtown
It may be competently made, aside from the odd clipping issue and an occasional crash, but it is monotonous and dull.

The storyline, much like the characters, has all the life and vigor of a wet noodle. The end result is a game that is deadly dull.

Greed: Black Border is a bit of a puzzle in itself. Who, exactly, was this game made for? It’s too niche, and with much too erratic levels of difficulty to appeal to the casually interested. It’s far too dumbed-down and repetitive to appeal to genre fans. It certainly didn’t appeal to me.

marlon b gave it a4:
This game has no Character, meaningful story or exploration. It's hard to imagine why it was ever done into RPG format since there are so many better games in that genre. So you get a top down shooter... that isn't very good at it, because it's not refined in the way a good shooter is. To sum it up... Half everything in a FUBAR scale.

Very fluid and nice gameplay. Finally not just simple "click and die" action, but tactical challenges. Good work!
