Summary

East India Company: Privateer is an expansion for the popular naval strategy title, East India Company. The expansion introduces players to the nebulous world of the privateer, who forges alliances based solely on a thirst for fortune and will go to any length to see that his job is fulfilled. Featuring new campaigns and commander skills, East India Company: Privateer offers players even more intense action on the high seas. [Paradox]

AceGamez

Changes are for the most part slight and minor, but Privateer’s new campaign structure does make for a new, refreshing playing experience.

Strategy Informer

Fans of the game will enjoy this distraction, even with its similarities to Pirate Bay, and with any luck some of the more promising additions will pave the way for further enhancements for what is really a neat, if slightly flawed, little game.

Gamer Limit

For $10, it's difficult to complain with what is on offer with EIC:P, but the unexcusable issues regarding performance make this a cautionary purchase.

Level7.nu

Takes you back in time and let you command a trading company under the 17th century. Trading, diplomacy and war are all natural ingredients of this RTS game. A good alternative if you’re looking for a trading simulation with a historical perspective.

Boomtown

Unless you are a big fan of the original and you yearn for more mission based combat then you’d better off saving your money. There isn’t enough new content here to justify the price tag.

Lysander S gave it a6:
It adds a few new things. Same old bugs are still there. The most prominent features would be the retinue for your captain and the Privateer missions. Retinue, like a surgeon, improving casualty recovery, or mast repair men who remove the need to travel to ports to reapair ships. The missions are far too repetitve (capture a ship, smuggle goods over and over again...), but offer something different compared to the vanilla game. If they get around to optimising the game, fixing the interface and camera controls, and fixing the boat load (wow a pun) of bugs, then this could be bumped up to a 7 or 8.
