With stunning visuals and a racing model so finely-judged Codies has done it again. An oil-stained masterpiece. [Jan 2010, p.82]
Strategy Informer
DiRT 2 was superlative stuff on Xbox 360 and PS3, and on PC it remains one of the most comprehensive and utterly playable off-road racing game you can buy.

Colin McRae’s Dirt 2 has made the transition from console to PC incredibly well, offering much the same in terms of play as before. However, the PC version has also brought some excellent tweaks which have added an edge to the experience, making Colin McRae’s Dirt 2 an unrivalled and unmissable off road racing experience.

DiRT 2 is a worthy successor to the original, getting practically everything right. While I would have liked to have seen a greater emphasis on more technical rally racing, I had a blast with every aspect of the title. From the solid visuals to the sweet tracks, DiRT 2's got a lot to love.

GT what? DiRT 2 is the real deal, capturing the thrill of rally racing in one hell of a slick package. Play it for the mud sliding physics alone.

Colin McRae: DiRT 2 is a pretty good mixture between a complex simulation and an action-based racer thanks to its compelling presentation.

There isn't a more exciting and involving racer around. [Jan 2010, p.68]

As we already fell in love with the console-versions, it's no surprise that the Windows Live version managed to get us just as excited, if not even a bit more. That's mainly because of the PC-versions improved graphics, that, especially in slow motion and when using DX11, are simply going to blow your mind.

An outstanding achievement in non-sim driving. [Issue #27, p.46]
Play.tm
DiRT 2 is a hugely enjoyable and well rounded game. It might not be as sim-like in nature as some hardcore rally fans may have wanted, but what it does offer is thrilling and enjoyable racing.

Spectacular and spirited racing game of the year! If you are not a hardcore worshiper to the rally and rally only, you will enjoy every aspect of this new chapter of DiRT. [Issue#186]

Dirt 2 is the best arcade off-road experience to date providing good time both to new and skilled player. DirectX 11 are a nice touch to this solid offer.

So, McRae-tagged it may be, but DiRT 2 isn't really a rally game. It has thrown off the stern shackles of the sport it theoretically represents, determined instead to turn racing into one giant party--and everyone's invited. [Jan 2010, p.82]
GameStar
What a great obituary for Colin McRae. If you ever need to show someone how today’s game can look like, get Dirt 2. It’s a joy for the eyes and it’s a great racing game, full of action, with great presentation and easy to get into. A few more tracks would have been nice, though. But playing over network alone is worth buying the game.

Dirt 2 is a fast paced racing game that is appealing to all fans of this genre. However the series is more and more losing its simulation character and becoming an arcade franchise. Is that a good or bad thing? Decide for yourself. Nonetheless the game is looking great especially in DirectX 11.

Codemasters has delivered another racing gem with Dirt 2. If you’re into exciting multiplayer races, a varied and extensive single-player campaign and racing in beautiful environments, then this game is definitely worth it. For every fan of any type of racing, this is a must-have. If you look well enough, you’ll even be able to get this game rather cheap.

The great offroad experience feels even better on PC, where stunning graphics will keep your eyes as busy as your wheels.

Colin McRae: DiRT 2 is too cool for it’s own good, but underneath the tacky surface the same, brilliant racing experience is found. The rally courses are especially brilliant and the variety of game and track modes leave little to desire. It’s simply excellent! A steering wheel is needed though.

A worthy successor to DiRT, although it doesn’t have enough fuel to become an instant hit.

Fun, super realistic and immersive. Bravo Codemasters - Another masterpiece. Surpasses GRID by a impressive amount.
James I gave it a10:
Jack Bauer, get a xbox 360 remote (wireless or usb) and try that. It's an amazing game with hours of play!
john e gave it a10:
Beautiful and fun. Jack Bauer, its called a game pad! about 20 bucks and the game is perfect.
Jack Bauer gave it a2:
Unless you are willing to fork out for a steering wheel. playing this game using only a keyboard sucks. You really have no control over your vehicle as it is impossible to get your car to go straight once you make your first turn. The game is beautiful, but play is frustrating. If you alreadyhave or are willing to invest in a wheel, then maybe this game is still for you.
Chris gave it a10:
Mind blowing graphics in DX11 mode. Utterly brilliant gameplay, can't think of a better rally game out there/
Tim O gave it a9:
Codemasters has this type of game refined to near perfection. The car/truck feel is just the right balance of realism and fun. The vehicles have a sense of weight and momentum, which seems to be one of the most difficult things to capture in a racing sim/game. They also include a proper in-car view that is missing from so many "consolized" games, but PC players have come to expect. Great graphics, fast game play and races are a good length if you don't have hours to play at a time. The one thing that kept me from giving this game a 10 is the "first person" menu system. While its slick and initially very cool, it starts getting in the way when you just want to retry and event without losing the cash/experience from a previous try... You have to go clear out of the pit area, into your trailer, re-select the event, then you're taken back to the pit area again. A "Retry Event" right in the pit area (but after you had been credited your points for previous race) would eliminate this minor complaint.
Andrew B gave it an8:
though i haven't played through the entire game yet i have gotten a pretty good feel of what this game has to offer. and that happens to be alot, gameplay wise there are tons of race modes so you won't be stuck playing one you don't like and the controls are very tuned no sloppy handling here. graphically this game is roughly eye porn, thats the best way to describe it anyway. never before have i wished a game would take longer to load races so that i could see the menus some more. the cars of course look beautiful and shiny, and then just as beautiful covered in mud. coupled with the damage engine i'd say that this is really the best looking racing game out. you enjoy racing games? go buy this game. you don't? i'm not entirely sure this would change your mind but it couldn't hurt to try.
