Summary
In ASTRO BOY: THE VIDEO GAME, players become the iconic hero, Astro Boy, and take to the streets and skies on an epic adventure to save Metro City from the clutches of the evil President Stone and his robot army. Utilizing Astro's entire arsenal of iconic weapons and abilities - Super Strength, Flight, Arm Cannons, Butt Machine Guns and Drill Attacks - players battle hordes of robot enemies and colossal bosses including some never-before-seen enemies across Metro City and the mysterious Surface. Using an intuitive combat system that adds depth to gameplay, players experience classic platform action and exhilarating combat levels as they use Astro’s unique rocket boosters to hover, avoid enemies and zip out of the way of danger. Astro Boy is simply not where it needs to be. Not too much fun found here and the fun that is found, is so tough to get to, it will alienate its core audience.

A bad camera and bad controls, however, quickly shoot down this game with little to no hope of it getting better as you progress. For fans of the movie and the character, it would be best to hunt down the GBA game to get their fix. If you don't have a system that can play that, however, your best bet would be to hold off on this and hope that someone will come along and do justice to this revered character.

If you really want a good Astro Boy handheld experience, pick up Astro Boy: Omega Factor if you can. Otherwise, you would be better off looking elsewhere for a platforming experience on Nintendo DS.

Considering there's nothing else to do in this game besides the single-player, that mode needed to be really good. Unfortunately, what we have instead is a missed opportunity that only frustrates and angers.

Poor playability, a complete lack of I.A. and bad graphics spoil the chance for another good Astro Boy title. The fan should forget this one, and stick to the old Sega's Omega Factor.

Do yourself a favor and hunt down the GBA game if you have an Astro Boy craving. Just ignore this pile, which is 100 percent pure, uncut shovelware.

Partial blame can be laid on the less-than-stellar CG film Astro Boy adapts, but considering High Voltage so vocally invoked Omega Factor during development, it is not unfair to hold the game to a higher standard. It doesn't come close. [Jan 2010, p.96]
NGamer UK
It's totally broken. [Jan 2010, p.74]
