Everybody Wants to be Italian tells the story of Jake Bianski, a handsome fishmonger still stuck on ex-girlfriend Isabella despite the fact that she left him eight years ago and is now married with three children. Fed up with their depressive pal’s unwillingness to let go of the past, Jake’s work friends set him up on a blind date with a smart, gorgeous veterinarian named Marisa at an Italian singles club party. Convinced that such a woman will not even consider dating a non-Italian, Jake passes himself off as a Bianchi instead of a Bianski as part of a crash course in faking his ethnicity. As Jake’s friendship with Marisa blossoms into romance, his past amore Isabella finally decides she wants him back after all, and Marisa takes off to Italy leaving Jake to decide whether to keep living in the past or embrace the promise of the future. 50
Philadelphia Inquirer
Steven Rea
Full of clunky humor, battle-of-the-sexes musings and spicy accordion music, Everybody Wants to Be Italian is relentless - but not necessarily relentless fun.

50
New York Post
Lou Lumenick
The film plays out pretty much exactly as you would expect - which won't bother some people one iota.

40
Variety
Justin Chang
A clumsy but inoffensive romantic comedy.

30
The New York Times
Jeannette Catsoulis
Features annoying characters navigating unbelievable situations.

25
TV Guide
Maitland McDonagh
So awash in tired ethnic clichés that the story drowns.

20
Village Voice
Ella Taylor
Less a movie than a charm offensive beamed at those who thought "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" was a masterpiece.

20
New York Daily News
Elizabeth Weitzman
As for that title, neither character is Italian, but each thinks the other is - a weak device designed purely to inspire a slew of stereotypes.
