MPAA RATING: PG-13 for rude and irreverent content, and for language and brief drug material

Boston Globe Ty Burr
Ultimately, the problem with An American Carol is the problem with far too much political discourse in this country, left or right: It highlights the worst excesses of the opposition for the sole purpose of discrediting the vast middle.

Entertainment Weekly Lisa Schwarzbaum
A loony attack on wacko liberalism and a ding-dong defense of wacko conservatism.

Los Angeles Times Gary Goldstein
It's a gag-strewn, hit-and-miss affair that's not without its chuckles.

The Hollywood Reporter Frank Scheck
The sole laughs are scored by Robert Davi, amusingly playing it straight as a Muslim terrorist who wants to hire Malone to make a suicide bomber recruitment film.

The New York Times Nathan Lee
Cheap shots and mean spirits abound, as do celebrity cameos (James Woods, Jon Voight, Dennis Hopper, Kelsey Grammer). But it's the laziness of the writing that most offends.

Conservatives score a few political points but aren't very funny in An American Carol, a cheesy spitball directed at the very large target of a Michael Moore-like filmmaker.

About as not-funny as a comedy can get.

Astonishingly inept alleged satire.

New York Post Lou Lumenick
Even if it weren't three years too late to parody Moore (ineptly played by Kevin Farley), Moore's ridiculous tribute to Cuban health care in "Sicko" is far funnier than anything in this desperately laughless farce from David Zucker ("Scary Movie 3").

Bad enough to earn a rare spot on my hallowed list of ''The Worst Movies I've Ever Seen,'' An American Carol is testament that the country's culture wars are raging just as strongly within Hollywood as anywhere else.

Michael Moore has nothing to fear from David Zucker.

Great satire never fits neatly within an ideological box. Attention, the ghosts of H.L. Mencken, Stanley Kubrick, and Jonathan Swift: David Zucker could use a visit.

josh f gave it a0:
Haha i'm still laughing at just how terrible this movie is. i'm also laughing at the people defending this movie, the critics gave it low scores because it is a poorly directed, poorly written, poorly acted, typical parody, just like all the scary movies, epic movie, date movie, meet the spartans, and so on. and i think its downright hilarious that all these conservatives are giving it a ten just because they agree with some of the points. a ten? you think this movie is a ten out of ten? a perfect? you say its just as good, or better, than the godfather, shawshank redemption, star wars, lord of the rings, forrest gump? methinks not. if you give this movie a ten, that just reveals your poor poor taste in entertainment.

Ian C. gave it a7:
Eh. I'm politically conservative and it was funny but it wasn't that great.

Ben S gave it a0:
It's amazing how this movie has brought together democrats and republicans in hating it. It's all an incredibly intelligent secret plan by the genius David Zucker to rally us all together! (sarcasm).

[Anonymous] gave it a0:
About as unfunny as the third graders joke book. This seems more like the drive by media mocking the conservative movement as a bunch of right wing nut jobs who would be crazy enough to like this swill.

Jesus gave it a2:
The conservative mind of the 21 century is unable to apprehend creativity, humor, or anything else of human value. I give this depressingly unfunny piece of trash a 2 just because it gives a glimpse into the jumbled mind of the conservatism which, through the actions of the USA and the Middle East (the two most conserative regions on Earth,) senselessly seeks to maim humanity to the point of extinction. Watch a real Michael Moore movie if you want to see something of value that will also make you laugh.

Jarrod L. gave it a0:
zero's and tens. Yep, this country is united allright. The sad thing the right doesnt get, is Liberals do love thier country. They just dont ignore it when it does wrong. Its the same as being a parent. you still love your kid if he gets caught shoplifting, or lying. But only a bad parent ignores it, for how will your child ever learn? The same here, I love my country , just not the stupid things it sometimes does. But the other side would rather ignore the wrongs and chant 'USA RULES'. Sticking your head in the sand or calling the others unpatriotic doesnt help. Looking at the situation with reason and wisdom is the best way forward, but hell, this is America, lets just bomb everyone cuz we rule!! YEAH!!

Dare gave it a0:
Don't listen to the other users on this one. Anyone who gave it a 10 should just stop watching movies. To Dave: (the guy who gave it a 0 and said he didn't even watch the film): go play in traffic you waste of life.
